Risks In Using Retinol and Vitamin C Together

Did you know that if you frankenstein skincare products together you may see incredible results? That’s right. You may be an expert at what skincare products and ingredients like vitamin c products or retinol products work for you and which ones don’t - but you probably have no idea about the power you can unleash by using certain items together.

There are two ingredients that are powerful in their own right, but if used together - and correctly - can have startling results. Researchers and board certified dermatologists are coming to the conclusion that using retinol and vitamin C together are wildly effective anti aging solutions, great for skin tone, skin cells, collagen synthesis, skin texture, and to fade dark spots.

Retinol: The GOAT

Retinol is the true GOAT. It’s great at everything.  It’s a VItamin A derivative, does things like stimulate collagen, and helps with skin cell renewal, hyperpigmentation and overall skin tone. It even treats acne. You can either grab the strong stuff that’s prescription or plant based alternatives that are better for sensitive skin - like rosehip oil or rosa mosqueta

Vitamin C: The Superhero

Vitamin C and vitamin C products are antioxidants that by definition neutralizes free radicals that basically come from environmental bad guys like pollution and the sun (the stuff that makes your skin age!), and helps with fine lines and wrinkles, and many also fade dark spots.

Used together, retinol and vitamin C together are a collagen dream team that go a long way in the anti aging fight. Individually they have unmitigated benefits for your skin, but each uses their powerful benefit to truly complement each other. Together they are more powerful than alone. For example, Vitamin C has been found to stabilize retinol, rendering it much more effective.

Together, this powerful duo firms skin tone, can treat acne and acne scars, reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and even provides anti-inflammatory effects.

Risks In Using Retinol and Vitamin C Together

Are there any risks to using retinol and vitamin C together? Yes, as there are with any type of skincare routine you might use. There is a risk to sensitive skin becoming irritated or red. A great solution is to use one product in the morning and the second at night and not necessarily use them at the same time. You can also use them together if they are both contained within the same product, making it less likely to irritate your skin.

Another great hack is to be sure you’re using high quality ingredients, and possibly even plant-based, vegan, one ingredient  version of retinol, like our Chilean rosehip.

Always start combining them slowly, and be sure to wear SPF during the day for increased protection from sun rays.

So make sure you apply your vitamins in the morning alongside your precious retinol in the evening to see the best results you’ve seen in a while.
